About Me

I create primarily self-portraits because I want to visualize themes of identity and vulnerability that the public can relate or be exposed to. I want my audience to reconsider their assumptions when viewing my work. Every person’s interpretations are different and I want viewers to take away whatever resonates with them as they experience my work. I create these types of artworks because I draw inspiration from my desire to be understood by others.

By utilizing my materials, I aim to embrace imperfections and use my methods intentionally, as this allows me to enjoy creating the art I want to make. I try to make my art as representational as possible, by working directly from real life to create recognizable forms. Abstraction aspects coexist within the work by altering those forms, through various techniques such as impasto and sgraffito. This way, my audience can see familiar representational imagery, leaving the abstracted forms to create room for interpretation. My technical process involves taking my own reference photos, allowing me to stay connected to the subject while being able to manipulate my compositions, lighting and meaning.

Through my work, I aim to address societal norms as broad as social and emotional issues, to specifics surrounding appearance, suppression, and anxiety. The implications of my work encourages my audience to pause and interpret the artwork and reflect on the issues that are often avoided, or suppressed within the public.
